Remember when a day at school seemed so long and the weekend would never come?
The school holidays were an eternity away.
At that time every day was filled to the brim with new things to do and think about. We were constantly learning and having new experiences. Learning and play were the same thing
Something happened as we got older. New experiences and the non familiar became less frequent. We found that days and weeks passed quicker and soon one year slipped into the next. What happened?
We had let our curiosity decline and accepted the security of the familiar. Learning something new meant taking a risk and stepping outside our comfort zone. Our world was becoming composed of the familiar, the safe and routine.
Soon we had a fence around ourselves which was getting smaller day by day.
What happened to ‘play’, curiosity and the excitement of discovery?
Why do we expect that from children but deem it unimportant as we mature.
Something is wrong with our thinking
